Hey there. Thanks for stopping by. My name is Megan, and I'm an enviro(ish) environmentalist.
I know what you are thinking...."why aren't you wearing hemp clothing you sewed yourself on a granola/crunchy deep woods hike in nature?" I know, because that's what environmentalists make me feel like I should be. "Should" can be such a horrible word, don't you think?
Also horrible is feeling like a braggart which goes along with this blog thing/territory. When I started this blog, the world had recently lost one of my personal inspirations - Priya Haji. She was an infinitely kind, fearless firecracker for good. I am honored to have worked with her. She would've questioned whether a blog can really make a difference in this world (a fair question), but she never would've hesitated to leap, so leap I shall. Here goes...
I've been doing environmental work for almost fifteen years, and it's taken me from field research in the South African bush to policy work in Washington D.C. to one of the top business schools for social impact to four years in full-time sustainability at a major movie studio to growing supplier diversity and sustainability at the company changing the face of wireless to having been on my state's leadership for the oldest environmental grassroots advocacy organization in the country. So I'm not without some "tree cred", if you will. But I don't fit a lot of tree-hugger stereotypes either....I love dressing up and wear leather (gasp!). I more of a "glamper" than a camper. My black thumb kills most plants I try to keep alive.
Moral of the story: my tribe of environmentalists mean well, but their purity tests tend to make us all feel like we're not eco enough...and that feeling is a downer. It can really get in the way of actually trying to be more eco.
But that's what enviro(ish) is all about. To share easy, everyday actions you can take to help the planet. enviro(ish) is a judgement and criticism-free zone to build a community that celebrates every little step. Because you can despair that each action you take is only one tiny drop in the ocean....or you can be inspired that the ocean is made up entirely of tiny drops.
Forget being environmentalist, join me and be environmentalish.
